Why Maryland?
Volleyball

Maryland Volleyball's rich tradition of success dates back to 1971, when Barb Drum took over the club team and finished 18-5 - qualifying for AIAW Nationals - in the program's first year as a varsity sport at Maryland. Since then, the Terps have gone on to achieve seven NCAA tournament appearances, five conference championships, and 1,005 all-time wins.

Winning has been at the core of Maryland volleyball. The program continues to grow and make strides in the best volleyball conference in the nation, the Big Ten.

During its time in the ACC, Maryland's volleyball team won five conference titles, one of just three teams to do so. The Terps' first title came in 1990, which also proved to be a stepping stone for the program, as Maryland also appeared in the NCAA Volleyball Championship for the first time in program history.

Legendary coach Janice Kruger led the team on a magnificent run from 1995 to 1997, where the Terps were largely unbeatable in the conference. In the three-year span, Maryland went a remarkable 75-17 (42-4 ACC), made the second round of the NCAA tournament each year, won the conference tournament once, and won the regular-season title twice.

Maryland Volleyball boasts the success of its 10 all-time student-athletes that have been selected as All-Americans.

Eden Kroeger (1994-97) was Maryland's first-ever volleyball player to earn All-American honors. Kroeger, who ranks first all-time in program history in career assists (5,259), was named a Volleyball Magazine Honorable Mention All-American in 1997.

Rachel Wagener (2002-05), the only two-time All-American in program history, was one of the most prolific middle blockers in school history. She helped lead the Terps to three ACC championships and was selected as an AVCA honorable mention All-American following her junior and senior seasons.

Erika Pritchard (2017-Pres.) was named a 2018 Volleyball Magazine Honorable Mention All-American following a breakout sophomore campaign in which she also led the Big Ten in kills/set (4.32), set the second-highest single-season kill total in Maryland history (493), and was named First Team All-Big Ten.

Anastasia Russ was been named to the North AVCA All-Region team as an honorable mention honoree following a sensational 2022 campaign. Russ became the second Terp in program history to lead the nation in an NCAA statistical category with 182 total blocks. The Pittsburgh, PA, native also finished top-five in blocks per set with 1.54. Russ will also go down in the record books for block assists in a season, totaling 160.
