Why Maryland?
Track & Field

The Maryland Track & Field program’s long history of success stems from 97 years of producing top-tier athletes. Maryland has built a competitive and zealous environment that encourages its athletes to take full advantage of both the academic and athletic opportunities.

Let's take a look at what makes Maryland Track & Field special:

Maryland Track & Field is coached by gold medalist and world record holder Andrew Valmon and has produced a remarkable 88 All-Americans including 29 females and 59 male athletes and six Olympians including Renaldo Nehemiah, Thea LaFond, Bjorn Anderson, Mark Coogan, Paula Girven, and Micha Powell

A notable group of successful alumni have gone on to be trailblazers in their respective industries ranging from engineers to medical professionals.

One of Maryland’s highly touted alumni, Renaldo Nehemiah was ranked No. 1 in the world for four straight years and is a former world record holder and was the first person ever to run the 110m hurdles in less than 13 seconds. He later went on to have a successful career as a wide receiver in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers.

The University of Maryland track and field teams train at one of the top on-campus facilities in the Baltimore-Washington region, the Kehoe Track, and Field Complex. The $9 million upgrades to the facility will provide student-athletes with State-of-the-art competition areas including an eight-lane 400-meter competition track, a grass infield as well as a full hammer cage and multiple throw areas.
