Why Maryland?
Baseball

Maryland’s baseball program has lept into the upper echelon of college baseball in the last 10 years, making six NCAA Tournament appearances while earning two Super Regional berths in 2014 and 2015. The Terps have reached new heights, claiming back-to-back Big Ten Championships in 2022 and 2023, while producing two consecutive conference Players of The Year.

Maryland baseball has a winning tradition during its program history. Take a look at what makes the Dirty Terps special:

25 Maryland baseball players have been named to All-American teams, including at least one in each of the last 10 seasons. Since 2014, 15 Terps have earned one of the highest honors in all of collegiate baseball.

Since joining the Big Ten Maryland has been mentored some of the best college baseball players in the conference over the years, including 2 conference players of the year and 32 All-Conference selections. The Terps have won conference titles in 1936, 1965, 1970, 1971 and won back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023. The Terps have seen incredible success, claiming their first conference Tournament title in 2023.

Professionals from the Maryland baseball program have excelled in the big leagues, as 34 career Terrapins of 124 all-time selections have gotten the call to The Show. 16 Terps currently play in MLB organizations. Gene Hiser, Eric Milton, and Brett Cecil are the only Terps in program history to be selected in the first round of the MLB draft.

Brandon Lowe (2013-15) has been one of the Tampa Bay Rays' best position players since joining the roster in late 2018. He was named a finalist for the American League Rookie of the Year in 2019 and is one of just six Terps all-time to be named an All-Star in Major League Baseball.

Maryland has participated in the NCAA tournament nine times: 1965, 1970, 1971, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2021, 2022 and 2023. The program's two Super Regional appearances came after monumental success at the 2014 NCAA Columbia Regional and the 2015 NCAA Los Angeles Regional. In 2014, Maryland knocked off regional host South Carolina to advance to its first Super Regional in the history of the program, while in 2015, the Terps did the unthinkable and eliminated No. 1 national seed UCLA to advance to the second Super Regional in the history of the program.

A pair of Terps competed against each other in the 2020 World Series, marking the first time two Terps played in a Fall Classic in more than 100 years. Adam Kolarek and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated Brandon Lowe and the Tampa Bay Rays.

Maryland's focus has always been to groom student-athletes to become the most well-rounded young men they can possibly be. The addition of the Stanley Bobb Baseball Player Development Center will be revolutionary for Maryland baseball players. The 8,500 square foot facility with state-of-the-art pitching and hitting technology will be vital to the Terps' success on the field.
