Quick Lane Bowl

  • The Maryland football team made great strides in 2016 under first-year Head Coach DJ Durkin, doubling its win total from the prior season. The Terps started the year 4-0 and won five of their first seven games, including a victory over Michigan State. After falling in three straight games to nationally-ranked teams, including a pair of matchups against Top 5 squads, Maryland defeated Rutgers, 31-13, in its season finale to garner bowl eligibility.
  • Maryland reached its third bowl game in the last four years and 27th bowl game all-time when the Terps faced off against Boston College in the 2016 Quick Lane Bowl, which was played at Ford Field in Detroit.
  • Sophomore running back Ty Johnson finished the year with 1,004 rushing yards, becoming just the ninth Terp and first since Da'Rel Scott (2008) to reach the 1,000-yard milestone. He also became just the eighth player in school history to post five 100-yard rushing performances in a single-season. Johnson reached the 1,000-yard rushing plateau on just 110 rushing attempts, the fewest rushing attempts ever for a Terp to reach the milestone. He also set the single-season Maryland record for yards per carry (100 attempts) with 9.13 in 2016. He broke a record that was set by Ed Modzelewski (7.38) in 1951. Johnson averaged 10.9 yards on 13 carries against Indiana, becoming just the eighth player in Maryland history to average 10 yards/carry in a single game (min. 10 carries). He also made history against Purdue when he rushed for 204 yards on just seven carries - the best yards/carry (29.1) mark for a 200-yard rusher in FBS over the last 20 years.
  • Sophomore Wide Receiver D.J. Moore led the Terps with six receiving touchdowns in 2016. He has totaled 9 receiving touchdowns in his first two seasons, tying for the most in school history. Stefon Diggs (2012-13), Jermaine Lewis (1992-93) and Dan Bungori (1971-72) also caught nine TDs in their first two seasons in a Terp uniform. Moore’s six TD grabs in 2016 is the 11th-most all-time in a single-season at Maryland. It’s the most touchdowns for a Terps wide receiver since Stefon Diggs also had six in 2012. Moore’s nine career TD grabs also ties him with Vernon Davis (2003-05) and two others for 15th in Maryland history. Moore currently leads all Maryland receivers with a reception in 21 consecutive games dating back to Oct. 3, 2015. It is the longest streak for a Terrapin receiver since Torrey Smith pieced together a 30-game streak from Nov. 6, 2008 to the final game of his career on Dec. 29, 2010. Moore is just six yards shy of reaching 1,000 reception yards for his career.
