Quick Facts

  • The women’s lacrosse and men’s lacrosse teams posted the highest semester team GPA for the fall 2015 semester and the women’s soccer team and men’s golf team did so for the spring 2016 semester.
  • Twenty-six (26) Maryland students earned a perfect 4.00 semester GPA during the 2015-2016 academic year.
  • A total of 227 students earned a semester GPA of 3.00 or higher in the fall 2015 semester while 273 student-athletes did so in the most recent spring 2016 semester.
  • One hundred seventy-two (172) students were named to their respective College Dean’s Lists during the 2015-2016 academic year.
  • Three hundred thirty-seven (337) students were named to the 2015-2016 Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for earning a 3.00 semester GPA in the fall and/or spring semesters.
  • One hundred fifty-nine (147) students were named to the 2015-2016 Academic All-Big Ten Team for fall, winter, and spring sports.
  • One hundred eleven (111) students will have graduated during the 2015-2016 academic year.

Academic Awards

  • Seniors Emily VandeWater and Tyler Manion were named as the 2015-2016 Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship recipients.
  • Rachelle Beanlands and Michael McCarney were named the Big Ten Medal of Honor recipients for outstanding academic achievement.
  • Malina Howard was inducted into the Maryland Medallion Society (one of only 20 graduating seniors) as well as named the recipient of the Sally Sterling Byrd Award for top female student.
  • Zoe Stukenberg was named an NCAA Elite 90 recipients while posting the highest cumulative GPA of all student-athletes participating at the WLA Final Four venue.
  • Zoe Stuckenberg was also named a CoSida Academic All-America for her successes in both the classroom and athletic arena.
  • A total of six (6) Maryland student-athletes were named recipients of the prestigious Arthur Ashe Jr. Sport Scholar Award.

NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) Summary (2014-2015)

  • All 20 athletic programs reported a multi-year score of .930 or higher and as a result, no post-season penalties were assessed by the NCAA.
  • The 2014-2015 ICA departmental APR score was .979 and the second highest score since the inception of the APR in 2003.
  • Nine (9) sport programs reported a perfect single year APR score of 1.000 (MGO, WBB, WCC, WFH, WLA, WSB, WTE, WTI, WTO).
  • Thirteen (13) sport programs reported a multi-year score of .970 or higher.

NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) Summary (2015)

  • The University of Maryland reported a 2015 GSR score of 85% marking the sixth time in the eleven-year history of the metric that Maryland has been above 80 percent.
  • 4 sports earned a perfect 100% (Field Hockey, Gymnastics, Women's Tennis, and Volleyball)
  • 13/18 sports reported GSR scores equal to or higher than their respective NCAA National average (WCC/Track count once)
  • Field Hockey posted a perfect 100% for the 4th consecutive year; Gymnastics a perfect 100% three consecutive years; and Volleyball a perfect score two years in a row.
