SHANNON BUSTILLOS
Heading into the final regular season series of the 2015 season, senior Shannon Bustillos sat on the
precipice of Maryland softball history. Only a home run and a couple RBI shy of the all-time Maryland records, the four-year starter knew a few key swings of the bat could cement her place in the program’s record books for years to come.
In the first game against Michigan State, Bustillos sent a fourth inning pitch over the fences for a solo home run, breaking the all-time program record. The long ball represented her tenth of the season and 28th of her career. In the season finale, the Anaheim, Calif., native hit a three-run homer to right center, breaking Lindsay Klein’s (’04-’07) longstanding all-time Maryland RBI record.
On her career, Bustillos hit .306 with 30 home runs and 153 RBI, starting all but one game behind the plate over the course of her four years. This season she was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team and All-Big Ten Defensive Team.
Off the diamond Bustillos excelled as well. A recipient of the prestigious NCAA Ethnic Minority Postgraduate scholarship and a Big Ten Postgraduate scholarship, the criminology and criminal justice major plans on pursuing a law degree post-graduation.
"Shannon had some really big at-bats for us this year. She has been clutch for us this year, so she is very deserving of these records. I'm very proud of her."
