A successful inaugural season in the Big Ten saw the Terps finish with an impressive record of 14-9-1. Competing in one of the fiercest gymnastic conferences in the nation, Maryland reeled off 14 straight wins to close out the regular season, topping the 196.000 team score in the final home meet of the season. It marked the first time since 2013 the Terrapins eclipsed the 196.000 team total. In the Big Ten Championships Maryland placed seventh, scoring a season-high 196.075, clinching a seventh consecutive NCAA Regional bid.
At the Auburn Regional, Maryland tallied a 195.150, placing third behind national powers Auburn and Alabama. The third place finish marks the team’s highest NCAA Regional finish since 2001 and only the third time in program history placing third or higher. Leah Slobodin placed ninth on floor (9.825), while Abbie Epperson and Karen Tang finished tied for 12th on bars (9.800).
The Terps hosted then-No. 11 Minnesota in their inaugural Big Ten home meet in January. The Terrapins shocked the nation, upsetting the Gophers 194.325-193.350. Senior Karen Tang tied a program record on bars, racking a score of 9.925. Later in the season head coach Brett Nelligan reached his 100th career victory in a tri-meet win against Brown and Texas Women’s University.
"We continued to push ourselves and it really showed. For us to be able to finish third in this Regional, that’s phenomenal.”
