2015 NCAA Los Angeles Regional Champions • Big Ten Tournament Finalists

Maryland knocked off No. 1 overall seed UCLA to win its second straight NCAA regional championship.

• Maryland recorded its finest season in school history, winning a school record 42 games en route to its second consecutive NCAA Regional title. The Terrapins made the NCAA Tournament in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1970-71.

• Given a No. 3 seed in the Los Angeles Regional, the Terps knocked off top overall seed UCLA to advance to the Super Regional round.

• Maryland advanced to the final of the Big Ten Tournament in Minneapolis, snapping Illinois’ nation best 27-game winning streak in the process.

• Sophomore RHP Mike Shawaryn put together one of the finest seasons for a hurler in school history, winning a single season record 13 games and recording a record 138 strikeouts. Shawaryn also set the Maryland career mark for wins (24). Shawaryn was named a first team All-American.

• Sophomore second baseman Brandon Lowe and junior catcher Kevin Martir combined to lead the offense. Lowe, a first team All-Big Ten selection, lead the team in doubles and RBIs while Martir, a third team All-Big Ten pick, paced the squad in average.

• Junior RHP Kevin Mooney led the bullpen, finishing his career with a school record 33 saves. He was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team, closing all three of Maryland’s wins.

• Head coach John Szefc became the fastest coach in Maryland history to reach 100 career wins and is the only skipper in school history to win 40 games in consecutive seasons. Szefc and his staff also produced eight MLB Draft selections, the most in a single draft in school history.
