WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The women’s basketball team capped its incredible 2014-15 season with its second straight trip to the Final Four. The Terrapins capped a school-record 28-game win streak that began early in December through April.

After going 18-0 in Big Ten play and winning the Big Ten tournament title, the Terrapins earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Terps defeated  New Mexico State, then undefeated Princeton in the second round to advance to their fourth straight Sweet Sixteen.

The Terps traveled to Spokane, Wash., for regional and faced former ACC rival Duke in the Sweet Sixteen. Rising junior Shatori Walker-Kimbrough led the way with 24 points and rising junior Brionna Jones added a double-double to lead the Terrapins into the Elite Eight with a 65-55 victory.

Maryland topped second-seeded Tennessee, 58-48, with a big second half to stretch the lead. The win propelled Maryland in the Final Four for the second straight season and third under head coach Brenda Frese.

“Advancing to the Final Four for the second straight season was an amazing accomplishment for this group," said Frese. "After losing five seniors from last year’s Final Four team, we really had to grow and work together to achieve success this year. I couldn’t be more proud of their determination and I know they just want to keep getting better and better."

Frese was voted Big Ten Coach of the Year by both the media and her peers for the second time in her career. Lexie Brown, Jones and Walker-Kimbrough were voted to the All-Big Ten First Team, while Laurin Mincy earned second team honors. Walker-Kimbrough was named Spokane Regional Most Outstanding Player in the NCAA Tournament and Jones was named to the All-Tournament Team.
