JOE CAMPBELL
Consensus All-American (1976)
Joe Campbell arrived on the Maryland campus with little fanfare, but quickly became a household name for Terp fans across the country. Campbell, who was never selected as an all-state honoree in high school, made an instant impact on the Maryland defense. He led the Terps to four straight bowl games and was named a consensus All-American during his senior season.
Following his Maryland career, Campbell was selected seventh overall in the first round of the 1977 NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints. After playing just over three seasons for the Saints, he was traded to the Oakland Raiders where he would go on to earn a Super Bowl ring during the 1980 season.
