Fighting through adversity, our student-athletes continue to grow: as people and as students. And we are supporting them more than ever. We’ve enhanced our virtual academic support efforts, increased mental health services, and emerged as a leader for new athletic training protocols. And we are honoring every scholarship, regardless if the student-athletes are able to compete.

While Maryland Athletics has yet to experience the full impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have already taken a number of steps to mitigate the risk to these revenue streams. Cost-cutting measures are in place, including a department-wide budget and hiring freeze as well as salary reductions for staff members at certain levels.
However, our mission of providing necessary resources for student-athletes has remained the same. We are committed to minimizing the effect this financial crisis will have on our student-athletes. We continue to prioritize their health and safety, and pledge to provide them with opportunities for their future.
All gifts to the More than the Score campaign are significant and will enable Maryland Athletics to offset some of the financial challenges incurred during these challenging times. All donations to the campaign will earn double Terpoints (16 points per $100) and donations of $25 or more will qualify for a special More than the Score t-shirt.
In addition to the t-shirt and bonus Terpoint opportunity, Maryland Athletics would like to recognize our most generous donors who contribute $5,000 or more to this important campaign with a permanent display in XFINITY Center. Names will be proudly displayed on a Scoreboard of Support plaque on the concourse for years to come.
The plaque will be unveiled at the conclusion of the More than the Score campaign and will look similar to the rendering above.
What does the More than the Score campaign support?
The funds raised by the More than the Score campaign help offset some of the financial shortfalls that Maryland Athletics faces due to the impact of COVID-19. While these financial challenges are shared by athletic departments across the nation, we remain committed to our mission -- supporting the educational and athletic endeavors of over 500 student-athletes.
These contributions will help fund the increased operational expenses we face for student-athlete care, such as the cost of regular COVID-19 testing and other special physical health services like ECGs and cardiac MRIs, mental health services, technology support for virtual classes and tutoring, and enhanced safety measures implemented for strength and conditioning.
